Abstract: In order to improve the deficiency of the description of car following behavior only considering the vehicle distance in the Optimal Velocity （OV） model, an improved OV model is proposed by taking the effect of the preceding vehicle’s acceleration information on the car-following behavior of the following vehicle into account. Through the linear stability analysis of the model using the small vibration amplitude disturbance method, the stability condition of the improved OV model is obtained. The numerical simulation of the model is conducted. The results show that compared with the traditional OV model, the improved OV model can significantly enhance the stability region of the traffic flow after taking the impact of the acceleration information of the preceding vehicle into consideration, and it can suppress the traffic jam effectively.
