Abstract: Queue-length based Time Division Multiple Access(Q-TDMA) is a new Media Access Control(MAC) protocol. Its purpose is to resolve poor throughput for IEEE 802.11 with high competition and TDMA with low loads. TDMA protocol can guarantee that each node has a chance to send in a cycle, while synchronous Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance(CSMA/CA) mechanism can solve the hidden terminal and exposed terminal problem. Combining with the advantages of TDMA and synchronous CSMA/CA mechanism, Q-TDMA demands that node needs to contend to access channel based on its’ own queue length. According to the simulation results, Q-TDMA improves the network throughput and reduces end to end delay.
