Fast-changing market requires rapid response in manufacturing enterprises. In order to improve the level of various engineering changes, a method is proposed based on ontology to present design knowledge. Ontology is used to express three aspects, including structure association, function association and external influence factors of products. Determination strategy of engineering change impact is carried out and then implemented with Java?algorithm. Finally, change of some parts of clutch is employed as case study to validate the advantages of this method. Results show that ontology can overcome the disadvantages of previous researches in presentation of concept and association in knowledge field, which is helpful to right decision-making in engineering changes.
