一种针对H.264/AVC的帧间模式快速选择算法

A fast inter mode decision algorithm for H.264/AVC

摘要: 为了进一步减小宏块的帧间预测误差,新的视频编码标准H.264/AVC采用了可变块划分运动估计,极大地增加了编码器的复杂度. 针对此问题,本文提出了一种快速的帧间模式选择算法,该算法利用已编码相邻宏块的时间和空间相关性信息预先检测图像,对图像各区域可能采用的编码模式进行判定,从而大大简化了模式选择的过程. 实验结果表明,本文算法可以在图像质量基本保持不变的基础上,有效的降低了编码复杂度.

Abstract: One of the features adopted in the newest video coding standard H.264 /AVC was the utilization of variable block-size motion estimation. The aims was to reduce the inter prediction error compared to coding a macroblock (MB) using fixed block size. However, this feature results in extremely high computational complexity. In this paper ,a fast mode decision algorithm is proposed. It makes use of the information of temporal and spacial correlation in the encoded adjacent macroblocks to predict the homogeneous or stationary regions and judge beforehand the possible modes. Thereby the whole procedure of mode decision is simplified. The experimental results show that , the proposed algorithm can reduce encoder complexity significantly while coding quality is only negligible decreased.
