Research and improvements of BMAC protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: Berkeley Media Access Control(BMAC) asynchronous Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) is based on CSMA MAC protocol. It uses a low-energy to listen(Low Power Listening, LPL) and expansion leading technology for a low-power communications. As its long preamble takes the channel, the neighbor is unable to transfer data, greatly reducing the channel efficiency. Based on operating mechanism of the BMAC agreement, this paper presents an improvement program, which takes advantage of optimized neighbors of the periodic table and improved with a gap leading technology combined with carrier frame sequence, further shortening the preamble carrier, reducing network energy loss, increasing channel efficiency, and ultimately it achieves the purpose of energy saving. NS-2 simulation results indicate that the improved protocol on the transmission delay and network energy consumption is superior to the BMAC to achieve efficient nature of the agreement.

摘要: BMAC(Berkeley Media Access Control)基于CSMA的无线传感器网络(WSN)异步MAC协议,它采用了低能量侦听(Low Power Listening,LPL)和扩展前导技术实现低功耗通信。但是其长前导对信道的占用,使得相邻节点无法进行数据传输,极大降低了信道利用率。基于BMAC 协议的运行机制提出了一种改进方案,该方案能够利用优化的邻居周期表和改进的带有间隙的前导载波帧序列技术结合,进一步缩短了前导载波,减小了网络能量损耗,增强了信道利用率,最终达到了节能的目的。NS-2仿真结果表明,改进后的协议在传输时延和网络能耗上均优于BMAC协议,实现了协议的高效性。
