Abstract:

Spatio-temporal process visualization is the core of spatial-temporal data visualization. The spatio-temporal process is taken as the research objective. Considering comprehensively the elements of space-time visual variables, perceptual features, visual classification and representation and other elements, a visualization model of spatio-temporal process named as S-TProc_VisModel is proposed based on the analysis of spatio-temporal data and process. This model is divided into five parts and seven levels. Five parts include model input, visual variables, perceptual features, visualization form and model output. Seven levels include spatio-temporal data, spatio-temporal processes, visual variables, visual perception, visualization techniques, representations forms and visualization results. The model can not only effectively express the position and shape of spatio-temporal objects, but also display complex process and temporal changes in the event. It has been proved by experiments that the S-TProc_VisModel can fully display the contents of spatio-temporal process, and express events more vividly and concretely.
