Idle sense in non-saturated wireless LANs

非饱和无线局域网环境中Idle Sense机制研究

Abstract: Idle Sense is a famous MAC scheme that exhibits superior performance over IEEE 802.11 DCF in saturated operation. However, the saturation operation rarely occurs in a realistic wireless LAN. Therefore, the objective is to investigate the non-saturation performance of Idle Sense. It is revealed that the non-saturation performance of Idle Sense is worse than that of IEEE 802.11 DCF, according to the design principle of Idle Sense. Then an improvement to the original Idle Sense is proposed to overcome its drawback in non-saturation operation. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed improvement is validated via NS2 simulations.

摘要: Idle Sense是一种非常著名的MAC层机制,它在饱和环境中表现出了比IEEE 802.11 DCF更好的性能。然而,饱和情况在实际的无线局域网中很少出现。研究了Idle Sense在非饱和环境中的性能。根据Idle Sense的设计原理,揭示了其在非饱和环境中的性能不如IEEE 802.11 DCF机制。提出了一种对原Idle Sense进行改进的新机制,该机制克服了原Idle Sense机制在非饱和情况下的缺点。新机制的有效性通过NS2模拟进行验证。
